Dear Wings Players,
We just got word that the MPA approved our waiver to become a co-op Varsity team!
While we celebrate this monumental milestone, we are now tasked with the necessity to raise the required funds.
In past e-mails to the group I have spelled out the cost of this unanimously supported venture – a whopping $18,000! With only 14 players committed so far, that translates to a starting cost of $1,280 per player. (Of course, if we have additional players, that starting cost will be reduced).
As you all are aware, we are strictly self-funded which means A LOT of fundraising. We have put in place several fundraising activities to help lower that $1,280 cost per player. It is important for you to understand that your starting cost will come down if and only if you participate in the fundraising.
The way our program works is that each player has a starting cost of $1,280 (less if more players). If you participate in a particular fundraising event, 20% of the total earned in that fundraiser will go toward our general fund and the balance will be distributed amongst those who participated. For instance, if we have a bottle drive where 10 players participate and we earn $1,000. 20% or $200 will go to the general fund to help pay for additional ice time, possible tournaments and/or playoffs and miscellaneous costs, the balance of $800 will be distributed among those ten players who participated. Each fundraiser will vary in participation requirements and the requirements will be spelled out at the start of each event.
To date we have had a New Year’s Day Bottle Drive, Winterfest, a SV MS Dance and the Little Caesars Pizza Kits. Many of you have not yet participated. For those of you that have participated in nearly all those events, your cost is already below $900! Coming up we have the Red Sox Raffle which will run through July; a Yard Sale/Silent Auction to be held tentatively on June 27th; a Roller Hockey Tournament-details to follow; and of course the ad book sales where each ad sold can help reduce each player’s individual tuition.
This year, we are requiring a $100 commitment fee that will be applied to your final tuition. Please fill out the attached registration form and mail along with your payment by June 1st. If you have no intention of fundraising, please send the full amount of $1,280 by October 15th. You can mail your payment to: Western Maine Wings, PO Box 1946, Windham, Maine 04062. CURRENT FUNDRAISER: Red Sox Raffle Tickets
We have tickets to the Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays game on Saturday, August 29th at 7:05
In order to be considered a participant of this fundraiser, players must sell a minimum of 60 tickets. Please contact Holly Stewart at info@westernmainewings.com if you need to pick up tickets. Tickets will be on sale through July with the drawing to be held on August 7th.
